i have a new sketchbook and it’s wonderful: it’s just in from Singapore, it’s limited edition, my fave paper inside, hand-torn edge in cognac-colore cover and all. i love that it is almost 4:5, and it makes me think, can i fit a leopard in this frame. the result is dreamy - i draw from memory, avoiding looking at references. this week i’ve done 5 science illustrations of birds and i’m fed up with precision and accuracy. so i draw as i remember it. and it’s funny, as it’s quite out of proportions and raw. so i think, how well can i remember other cats. i generally spend a considerable amount of time reading about wild cats or thinking about them. all that there is online, i know it, or i’ve heard about it. so this game brings out my actual knowledge of proportion and anatomy. i love the quirky result. i might carry on the next week: i’m gonna need to illustrate marine arctic mammals then.
